The Pretty Truth About Midlife Hair

The Pretty Truth About Midlife Hair

There should honestly be a support group for women the first time they notice their hair changing in midlife. One day you are whipping your ponytail around like you are in a shampoo commercial and the next day you are staring at your shower drain wondering if you should hold a small memorial service for the amount of hair sitting in it.

When You First Notice Your Hair Changing

About four years ago, I started noticing my hair thinning out. Not dramatic movie-scene thinning. Just enough for me to start side-eyeing my brush every morning like, “Excuse me… where are we all going?” My ponytail felt thinner. My hair didn’t have the same bounce. And don’t even get me started on the tiny baby hairs sticking straight up around my face like I had accidentally touched a balloon.

Midlife Decided It Wanted to Humble Me Too

Midlife is wild because nobody prepares you for the little identity shifts that happen. Your body changes. Your skin changes. Your energy changes. And apparently your hair decides it wants to humble you too.

Now before everybody panics and starts Googling seventeen thousand expensive hair treatments, let me tell you the one thing I started doing consistently that honestly made a huge difference for me.

The Least Glamorous Beauty Secret Ever

I started eating an avocado every single day.

I know. The least glamorous beauty secret ever. Not a magical serum. Not a luxury treatment. Just me standing in my kitchen eating avocado like a woman fighting for her life and hairline.

But listen… it worked.

Over time, my hair started feeling healthier. Fuller. Shinier. I noticed less breakage and my hair just looked happier overall. Was it overnight? Absolutely not. I wish avocados worked like Botox for hair, but unfortunately life is rude. It took consistency. But it became one of those small daily habits that genuinely helped.

Midlife Self-Care Doesn’t Have to Be Complicated

And honestly? I think there is something powerful about taking care of yourself in simple ways during midlife. We spend so much time trying to “fix” ourselves when sometimes our bodies are just asking for nourishment, consistency, water, sleep, healthy fats, and maybe a little less stress scrolling at 11 PM.

You Are Not “Letting Yourself Go”

The Pretty Truth is this: midlife hair changes are normal. You are not failing because your hair texture changed. You are not “letting yourself go” because your ponytail looks different than it did at 25. Your body is evolving. That does not mean you stop taking care of yourself. It just means you start taking care of yourself differently.

Shop My Favorite Hair Products

And trust me, I still love a good hair product. I am a girl’s girl. If something makes my hair shiny, smooth, voluminous, or gives me even a tiny bit of main character energy, I want it immediately. That is why I put all of my favorite hair products on my website because if I find something that works, I am absolutely sharing it with my midlife besties.

You can shop all of my favorite hair products here. No gatekeeping over here.

So if you are in your midlife hair era right now, consider this your sign to grab an avocado, drink some water, be gentle with yourself, and maybe add a little dry shampoo for emotional support.
