The Pretty Truth About Gratitude (and Why It Hits Different This Time of Year)
Thanksgiving season always makes me pause. Maybe it’s the smell of pumpkin candles or the way the house feels extra cozy, but this time of year always reminds me to take a deep breath and look around at all the blessings hiding in plain sight. Gratitude doesn’t always show up in big, flashy ways. Sometimes it’s in the slow mornings, the laughter around the dinner table, or the way your family just gets you, even when you’re being your full, messy self.
Finding Thanks in the Ordinary
This year, I’m especially thankful for the things that make up the real fabric of my life, not the perfect Pinterest version, but the beautiful, chaotic, deeply personal one.
I’m grateful for being able to stay home with my boys, watching them grow into exactly who they’re meant to be (even when they leave snack wrappers everywhere). I’m grateful for the women across the country who let me speak into their lives, helping them rediscover their confidence and joy through The Pretty Truth. Knowing my words reach someone’s heart still takes my breath away.
And maybe most of all, I’m thankful for a family and friends who support all my wild ideas from writing a book to naming a skeleton “Goldie.” They love me through every dream, every pivot, and every “what if I tried this?” moment. That kind of love is rare and real.
My Secret to a Grateful Life
Here’s the Pretty Truth: gratitude isn’t something you check off once a year at Thanksgiving dinner. It’s something you practice when life feels ordinary, or even hard. It’s the pause between the chaos that reminds you, you already have enough.
Gratitude turns what we have into more. It softens the comparison and shifts our focus back to what actually matters. We all know what really matters, right?
A Few Ways to Practice Everyday Gratitude
- Write one thing down every morning that makes you smile. It doesn’t have to be deep, “coffee that’s actually hot” totally counts.
- Say thank you out loud. Say it to your kids, your spouse, your barista, yourself. Gratitude grows when it’s spoken. Do this often.
- Revisit the simple things. The dinner table, the porch, the people who make you laugh until you cry. That’s your gold. Treat it as such.
- Remember how far you’ve come. You used to wish for some of the things you have now. Let that sink in.
Pretty Truth Moment:
You don’t need a perfect life to be grateful — just an open heart to notice what’s already good.
