The Multitasking Mom Badge (and Why I’m Gently Setting Mine Down)

The Multitasking Mom Badge (and Why I’m Gently Setting Mine Down)

Somewhere along the way, “multitasking mom” became a title we wear like a sparkly badge of honor. Packing lunches while signing permission slips, answering emails while reheating our coffee for the third time, scheduling dentist appointments in the school pickup line. WOW, look at us go! We juggle it all with a smile… and maybe a slightly twitching eye.

But if I’m being honest? I don’t think we were meant to live this way. Why should we always be tired, always behind, always trying to be everything for everyone. We call it multitasking like it’s a superpower, but half the time it just feels like we’re spinning in circles hoping nothing drops, breaks, or needs therapy later.

What if doing less is actually the real flex? What if we stop glorifying busy and start celebrating being here? Sitting with our kids without checking emails. Drinking a hot coffee while it’s still hot. Saying “no, not this time” without feeling like we’ve failed some invisible motherhood Olympics.

💛 Tiny Shifts Toward Being Present (Instead of Constantly Performing)

  • Start the morning slow for 5 minutes. No phone. Just breathing, coffee, or a sleepy kid snuggle.
  • Do one thing at a time on purpose. Stir the spaghetti sauce without answering a text. Fold laundry without planning dinner in your head.
  • Say “not today” to something. A committee, a bake sale, or the mom-guilt whispering “you should be doing more.”
  • Create small pauses. Sit in the car for one extra minute before going inside. Step outside after dinner. Remind your nervous system that life is not an emergency.
  • Let your kids see you rest. Not because you’re sick or broken — but because rest is normal and allowed.

💡 Pretty Truth Moment

You don’t need to be a one-woman circus act to be a good mom. Your presence is more powerful than your productivity.
